Here is the original dress, retailing for $89.99 at Modcloth.
Here is the nearly identical?! fabric at Fabric.com.
Combine the following 2 patterns and you would be set!
The dress requires 2 5/8 yards total, but of course you would need less of the print if you were going to re-create the colourblocking/contrast panels. All up, I would say the dress could be made for less than $50, or less depending on how frugal you are.
Admittedly, these cotton conversation prints are reasonably easy to find, along with basic dress silhouettes. I shall definitely be re-thinking my dress purchases in the future, and seriously asking myself – can I make this same or a similar dress at home for less?
I’m loving your dresses lately-! This is so brilliant! I need to work on my pattern reading ability…I haven’t tried a dress before, but I know have to try to actually learn :)!
I was just looking at that fabric this week thinking it would make an interesting work skirt.
It absolutely would! And it would be easy to pair with black tops, shoes, etc. DO IT! 😀
What a great idea! Love this!
Thank you! 😀
Oh wow, you nailed the fabric for sure. I’d love to make that dress but I am so scared of using patterns. I have some easy skirt patterns that I need to try. Would save some money making your own for sure!

modcloth, gah! They are the reason I tried to learn how to sew. I made their “too much fun” dress, but it was really stressful. I’m so excited you’re doing this!
Anything you try to sew for the first time will be a complete headache. Actually, nearly the first 100 things you sew will be… LOL. Now I am trying to sew “just for fun” – it actually does seem to be a lot more fun. 😀
