Holidays in the US vs. Holidays in New Zealand

Cultural differences: Holidays.

Christmas in the USA:

Shopping for gifts! Getting into the festive spirit!

Excessive use of Christmas lights:  aka the first image hit from googling “Over the top Christmas”

Decorations… So many decorations…

SNOW!!!  (Christmas in Minnesota…)

Also, this.

And the sheer abundance of Christmas spirit!

And finally, Christmas traditions with the family!

VS. Christmas in New Zealand:

A typical Kiwi Christmas

Kiwi Christmas Tree

Pavlova – Kiwi classic

Classic New Zealand Christmas – Holiday Park on the beach

Unless you’re in the hospo industry, you’re off work for at least 2 weeks over Christmas. Maybe more…

How I personally treat Christmas in New Zealand:

Seriously. We can go tramping around Nelson and even the North island

  1. WOW!!! I love that you posted this 🙂 I had no idea~!! The two weeks is especially nice…it’s hard here since many people work both Christmas Eve and the day after Christmas, but there is a LOT of Christmas cheer regardless 🙂 very cool! thank you for sharing the cultural information!
